I've been tagged by KG to come up with new ideas / themes for Tamil cinema. Here goes:
1) Considering India's great war history, the number of war movies in Tamil cinema in recent times has been very negligible. Kamal Hassan started off with Marudhanayagam but I have no clue what state it is in right now. There were war movies produced in the black and white period and some of them were huge hits. Guys like Shankar can think of such ventures since these kind of movies demand grandeur and visual effects of a greater scale.
2) Fantasy is one genre that producers have not ventured into much, mostly due to financial reasons and lack of audience. Of course, we witness a lot of fantasy in the songs. If only it could be extended to the movies too...
3) Animation is another area that is yet to be explored. We know 'Sultan' starring Rajnikanth is gonna come, thanks to the trailer screened before Sivaji. I hope Sultan becomes a huge hit, inspiring other producers to come up with more projects like this.
I was also thinking about science fiction, but KG already thought abt that so I'm gonna stop here.

Dude,
I just threw that idea up coz it just came to mind. Its hard for me to think about a specific theme in science fiction. That doesn't stop you from exploring that. I hope somebody gets more specific ideas about science fiction as the meme passes on.
btw, to pass the meme on, you should tag a few people whom you think would be interested in passing the meme on.
As for the suggestion to Shankar, i think, as a creator he is desperately in need for such suggestions. We know he's got the grandeur and visual effects expertise as you say. Wish he considers such areas instead of the "preaching" the nation ideas that he has. ;)
